Loire authion

Loire Authion is a commune in Maine-et-Loire, formed by the merger of several villages in Anjou, including Andard, Beaufort-en-Vallée, Brain-sur-l'Authion, Corné and Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire. It lies between the Loire river and the Authion, around fifteen kilometres east of Angers, in a flat alluvial landscape traditionally given over to market gardening and fruit growing. The riverside village of Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire is known for its marina and its large statue of Joan of Arc overlooking the Loire, a familiar landmark from the riverbanks. Beaufort-en-Vallée retains the remains of its château and an old covered market hall in its historic centre. The area is crossed by the Loire à Vélo cycling route, popular for riverside rides and for exploring the wider heritage of the Loire Valley, including its châteaux and listed sites. With a mild climate and typical Loire riverside scenery, Loire Authion makes a convenient base for discovering Anjou, combining countryside, rural heritage and easy access to Angers.
