Mauges sur loire

Mauges-sur-Loire is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire département, in the Pays de la Loire region, formed by the merger of several villages along the Loire, including Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, Montjean-sur-Loire and Saint-Laurent-de-la-Plaine. The area lies within the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and stretches along the river for several kilometres. Saint-Florent-le-Vieil, a historic town, retains an abbey church and the Bonchamps memorial, a sculpture by David d'Angers commemorating the Vendée wars. Montjean-sur-Loire, once a busy river port until the 19th century, still bears traces of its past linked to slate quarrying and river trade.
