Segre en anjou bleu

Segré-en-Anjou Bleu is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department, formed by the merger of several villages around the town of Segré, through which the Oudon river flows. The area's nickname, 'Anjou Bleu', comes from the former slate quarrying industry that shaped both the local economy and architecture, with slate roofs and façades still visible throughout the surrounding villages. The gently rolling countryside, dotted with hedgerows, meadows and small waterways, is well suited to walking, cycling and fishing. Segré itself, the historic heart of the new commune, retains a lively centre with shops, a market and a handful of older buildings reflecting its rural and industrial past. Located roughly thirty kilometres north-west of Angers, it makes a quiet base for exploring the wider Anjou region, from Romanesque heritage to the Loire Valley châteaux and unspoilt natural landscapes.
