Chemille en anjou

Chemillé-en-Anjou is a newly merged commune in the Maine-et-Loire department, formed in 2016 by combining several Angevin villages including Chemillé, Chanzeaux, La Salle-de-Vihiers and Valanjou. Set within the Anjou wine region, the area enjoys a mild oceanic climate well suited to viticulture as well as the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants, a traditional activity for which Chemillé has long been known locally. The town is crossed by the Hyrôme, a small river that shapes a gently rolling landscape of hedgerows, vineyards and meadows typical of the neighbouring Segréen and Choletais areas. The surrounding countryside offers numerous walking trails revealing this rural heritage, dotted with chapels, old mills and small farms. Proximity to Angers and Cholet makes it easy to venture into more urban settings, while the countryside remains defined by mixed farming and livestock rearing. Chemillé-en-Anjou therefore makes a peaceful base for exploring the wine-growing and rural Anjou region, combining unspoilt nature, local produce-based cuisine and the relaxed pace of life characteristic of the area.
