Oree d anjou

Orée d'Anjou is a merged commune in the Maine-et-Loire department, formed in 2016 from the union of several villages including Liré, Champtoceaux, Bouzillé and Drain. Located on the banks of the Loire, near Ancenis and roughly 30 kilometres from Angers, it lies within the Loire Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The area is crossed by the Loire à Vélo cycle route, offering rides along the river and through the Muscadet vineyards that define this part of Anjou. Liré, one of the constituent villages, is known as the birthplace of poet Joachim du Bellay, a key figure of the Pléiade group, with a local museum dedicated to his life and work. The gently rolling landscape, dotted with vine-covered hillsides and small traditional villages, is well suited to exploration on foot or by bicycle. The riverside setting also allows for water-based activities and walks along the Loire's banks. The nearby town of Ancenis provides additional shops and services for those staying in this peaceful, rural corner of Maine-et-Loire, valued for its tranquillity and unspoilt natural surroundings.
