Gennes val de loire

Gennes-Val-de-Loire is a commune in the Maine-et-Loire department, formed in 2016 through the merger of Gennes with Chênehutte-Trèves-Cunault, Le Thoureil, Grézillé and Saint-Georges-des-Sept-Voies. Set in the Anjou region along the banks of the Loire, a UNESCO World Heritage river, it offers a well-preserved natural setting ideal for walking or cycling, including along the Loire à Vélo route that follows the river. The area is home to several notable heritage sites: the Romanesque abbey church of Cunault, known for its carved capitals, the Saint-Eusèbe church in Gennes with its ruined tower overlooking the valley, and a dolmen attesting to early settlement in the area. The village of Le Thoureil retains traces of its past as a Loire river port, with its charming mariners' houses still visible. The region borders the Anjou-Saumur vineyards, perfect for sampling local wines and exploring the troglodyte cellars typical of the Saumur area. With its temperate oceanic climate and proximity to Saumur, Gennes-Val-de-Loire makes a pleasant base for discovering the Loire Valley's architecture, outdoor activities and regional cuisine.
