Chemille en anjou

Chemillé-en-Anjou is a new commune in the Maine-et-Loire department, created in 2016 through the merger of several former villages in south-eastern Anjou, including Chemillé, La Salle-de-Vihiers, Chanzeaux and Saint-Georges-des-Gardes. Located in the Anjou region, roughly halfway between Angers and Cholet, it sits within a typically rural Loire Valley landscape characterised by hedgerowed farmland, vineyards and medicinal herb cultivation, a long-standing local speciality. The area enjoys a mild oceanic climate, well suited to outdoor pursuits such as walking and cycling along the surrounding countryside lanes and valleys. The commune retains a modest architectural heritage, with churches and older buildings scattered across its various villages. Nearby, wine enthusiasts can explore the Anjou appellations, while the Loire and Layon valleys offer scenic spots for peaceful day trips.
