Decazeville

Decazeville is a town in the Aveyron department, in the Occitanie region, established in the 19th century around coal mining and metallurgy. Its industrial past remains visible through La Découverte, a former open-pit mine now converted into a natural and educational site, along with several remnants of the Decazeville-Aubin mining basin. The town retains architecture typical of that era, including workers' districts and repurposed industrial buildings. It lies close to Cransac, known for its thermal spa making use of natural underground heat, and not far from Aubin. The surrounding area, set between the Lot valley and the foothills of the Massif Central, offers a hilly landscape well suited to walking and exploring the local countryside. Decazeville also serves as a convenient base for visiting better-known heritage sites in the region, such as Conques, Figeac and Rodez, the departmental capital. The climate is temperate continental, with mild summers and cooler winters, typical of this part of the southern Massif Central.
