Trelaze

Trélazé is a town in the Maine-et-Loire department, right on the edge of Angers, forming one of the main communities within the Angers Loire Métropole area. Its history is closely tied to slate quarrying: for more than five centuries, local quarries supplied a significant share of France's slate production, employing generations of miners. This industrial heritage is now showcased at the Musée de l'Ardoise (Slate Museum), which traces extraction techniques and the daily life of slate workers. The town has converted some of its former quarry sites into walking areas that highlight this mining legacy. Its location along the Loire gives convenient access to the Loire à Vélo cycling route, popular for exploring the valley at a leisurely pace. The nearby city of Angers offers rich architectural heritage, including Angers Castle and its Apocalypse Tapestry. The region enjoys a mild oceanic climate, well suited to outdoor activities throughout the year, and lies at the heart of the Anjou vineyards, known for their white and rosé wines.
