Saint-Philbert-du-Peuple is a small rural village in the Maine-et-Loire department, within the Saumur area of Anjou. This part of the Loire Valley is characterised by a gently rolling landscape of vineyards, farmland and small woodlands, typical of the Anjou wine-growing region. The area is known for producing AOC Saumur and Saumur-Champigny wines, as well as for its troglodyte dwellings carved into tuffeau, the local limestone widely used for houses and wine cellars.
