Rochefort sur loire

Rochefort-sur-Loire is a village in the Maine-et-Loire department, in the Anjou region, roughly twenty kilometres south of Angers. It lies along the Corniche Angevine, a winding scenic road that follows the hillside and offers views over the Loire valley and riverbed. The village is crossed by the Layon river, which lends its name to the Coteaux du Layon appellation, known for its sweet white wines made from the Chenin Blanc grape. The Quarts de Chaume grand cru, one of the region's most prestigious sweet wines, is produced within the commune itself, and several local vineyards offer tours and tastings. The village retains a church and a rural setting typical of Anjou, surrounded by vines, orchards and wooded slopes. Nearby, the small village of Béhuard, built on an island in the Loire, is a popular stop thanks to its chapel and distinctive riverside atmosphere. The area is well suited to walking or cycling along the Loire, as well as exploring Anjou's winemaking heritage. The mild, oceanic climate favours the cultivation of both vines and fruit trees throughout the surrounding countryside.
