Montreuil bellay

Montreuil-Bellay is a town in the Maine-et-Loire department, in Anjou, within the Saumur area, built on the banks of the Thouet, a tributary of the Loire. The town retains part of its medieval fortifications, including old gateways and ramparts that reflect its defensive past. The Château de Montreuil-Bellay, a complex blending medieval and Renaissance architecture, overlooks the town and is partly open to visitors. The collegiate church of Notre-Dame adds to the town centre's architectural and religious heritage. The surrounding vineyards fall within the Saumur appellation, ideal for exploring local wine cellars and estates. Nearby Saumur, renowned for its cavalry school and troglodyte cellars, along with Thouars, makes it easy to explore the wider southern Saumur region. The mild oceanic climate of the Loire Valley is well suited to strolls along the Thouet and walks through the historic town centre.
