Nolay

Nolay is a small town in Burgundy, in the Côte-d'Or department, on the edge of the renowned Côte de Beaune vineyards. The town retains a distinctly medieval character, most notably through its 14th-century wooden market hall, which is still used for the weekly market, along with several half-timbered houses reflecting its history as a trading centre. The Saint-Martin church and remnants of the old fortifications add further historical interest to the village. Nolay also lies close to the Château de la Rochepot, a restored medieval fortress overlooking the valley, and to the Cirque du Bout du Monde, a natural site popular for walking and nature observation. The surrounding hilly, wooded countryside offers plenty of scope for walking and cycling, particularly around the Nolinois hills. Its proximity to Beaune, the capital of Burgundy wine, makes Nolay a convenient base for exploring the wine estates and listed landscapes of the Côte de Beaune. The temperate continental climate brings warm summers and cool winters, typical of this rural, wine-growing part of Burgundy.
