Maillebois

Maillebois is a small village in the Eure-et-Loir department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, located in the Drouais part of the Perche area, a few kilometres from Dreux and Chartres. This rural area, characterised by rolling countryside, farmland and woodland, provides a peaceful setting for countryside stays. The village is known for its château, once the seat of the Desmarets family, whose name was borne by the Marshal of Maillebois in the 18th century; the estate and its park reflect this local history. The village retains a parish church and traditional Percheron architecture, with stone and timber-framed houses typical of the region. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking and cycling, with small valleys, rivers and woods to explore. Nearby Dreux offers shops, services and a railway station with connections to Paris, while Chartres, around thirty kilometres away, boasts its architectural heritage, including its UNESCO-listed cathedral.
