Gallardon

Gallardon is a small town in the Eure-et-Loir department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, located around twenty kilometres north of Chartres. The village grew up along the Voise, a small river running through the centre. Its most notable landmark is the Gallardon tower, locally nicknamed “l'Épaule de Mouton” (the Mutton Shoulder), an imposing remnant of a medieval feudal castle visible from afar across the surrounding countryside. The old town also retains the Saint-Pierre church, a reminder of the area's religious history. This modest-sized town offers a peaceful setting between the Beauce plain and gentle valleys, ideal for walks and discovering rural heritage. Its proximity to Chartres, a UNESCO World Heritage city renowned for its cathedral, makes it a convenient base for exploring the wider region. Rambouillet and its state forest are also within about thirty minutes' drive.
