Chateaudun

Châteaudun is a town in the Eure-et-Loir department, in the Centre-Val de Loire region, set on the banks of the River Loir. The town is dominated by its castle, an imposing medieval and Renaissance fortress perched on a rocky spur overlooking the valley, offering striking views across the old town's rooftops and the river's winding course. The historic centre retains a varied architectural heritage, with old houses, charming narrow streets and several churches reflecting its long history, including the Basilica of Notre-Dame-du-Champdé. Châteaudun enjoys a temperate oceanic climate, with mild summers and moderate winters, typical of the neighbouring Beauce and Perche regions. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking and cycling along the Loir, through agricultural landscapes and small rural villages.
