Salazie

Salazie is one of the three natural cirques on the island of Réunion, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site under the Pitons, Cirques and Ramparts designation. This mountainous area, known for its humid climate and lush vegetation, is home to the village of Hell-Bourg, recognised as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France, noted for its historic Creole houses and thermal baths once used in the 19th century. The Voile de la Mariée waterfall, visible from the winding road leading into the cirque, is a notable landmark along the way. The more remote hamlet of Grand Îlet offers a glimpse of rural highland life on Réunion. Salazie is also known for its lychee production, harvested at the end of the year.
