Les avirons

Les Avirons is a town in south-western Réunion, situated between Saint-Louis and Saint-Leu, close to the coastline and the island's first volcanic foothills. The area stretches from mid-altitude farmland down towards the shore, offering a typically rural setting along Réunion's west coast. The town lies near Grande Anse beach, known for its natural swimming pool fringed with coconut palms, popular for bathing and family picnics. The tropical climate, moderated by trade winds, makes the area pleasant to visit for much of the year, with a drier season generally running from May to November. The surrounding countryside is well suited to walking, with paths leading towards the wooded highlands and trails connecting the island's inland cirques and plains. Agriculture remains part of local life, with sugar cane fields and small-scale market gardens still in use. Les Avirons serves as a convenient base for exploring both the wild southern coastline and Réunion's mountainous interior, while retaining a quieter, less touristy feel compared with nearby seaside resorts.
