Larressingle

Larressingle is a small fortified village in the Gers department, in south-west France, often described as one of the smallest walled towns in the country and listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Enclosed by ramparts and a moat, it retains a 13th-century medieval castle, a fortified gateway and the Church of Saint-Sigismond, remnants of its defensive past shaped by tensions between the County of Armagnac and the English during the Hundred Years' War. The village lies along one of the historic routes of the Way of St James, making it a popular stop for pilgrims and walkers. Its rural setting amid the rolling Gascon countryside is ideal for walking or cycling among vineyards and fields. The nearby town of Condom makes it easy to explore other sites in the Gers.
