Roquelaure

Roquelaure is a small village in the Gers département, in the Gascony region, located a few kilometres north-west of Auch, the county town. The village is known for its château, linked to the Roquelaure family, from which Antoine de Roquelaure, a Marshal of France under Louis XIII, hailed. The commune sits within a typically rolling Gers landscape of hills, woodland and farmland, offering a peaceful countryside setting. The surrounding area is renowned for Gascon cuisine, particularly foie gras, duck breast and Armagnac brandy, produced in nearby distilleries. Nearby Auch is worth visiting for its UNESCO World Heritage-listed Sainte-Marie Cathedral and medieval old town. The area around Roquelaure is well suited to walking, cycling and exploring rural Gascon heritage, with numerous characterful villages and scenic viewpoints over the countryside. The climate is mild and sunny for much of the year, typical of south-west France, with warm summers and relatively moderate winters. Roquelaure therefore makes a quiet base from which to explore the Gers countryside.
