Lombez

Lombez is a small town in the Gers département, in the Occitanie region of southern France, known for its history as a former episcopal seat. Its main historic landmark is Sainte-Marie Cathedral, a fine example of southern Gothic architecture reflecting the town's religious significance until the French Revolution. The old quarter retains timber-framed houses and narrow lanes typical of the Gers countryside, ideal for a leisurely stroll. Lombez lies at the confluence of the Save and Arrats rivers, set within the gently rolling countryside characteristic of this part of Gascony. Nearby Samatan, well known for its poultry and foie gras market, offers a taste of local gastronomy, including foie gras and Armagnac, both regional specialities. The mild, semi-oceanic climate with southern influences makes outdoor activities enjoyable for much of the year, from countryside walks and cycling routes to simply taking in the surrounding farmland.
