Mielan

Mielan is a small village in the Gers département, in the Occitanie region of south-west France, set within the rolling countryside of the Astarac area, between Auch and the foothills of the Pyrenees. The village retains a nineteenth-century wooden market hall and arcaded houses around its central square, remnants of its past as a bastide town and trading stop. Nearby, Lac de Miélan, a purpose-built lake, offers supervised swimming in summer, fishing and watersports, along with a relaxed leisure area popular with families. The surrounding countryside, with its gentle hills, cereal fields and vineyards, is well suited to walking and cycling, with views towards the Pyrenees on clear days. The Gers region is known for its gastronomy, including foie gras, duck breast, Armagnac brandy and Floc de Gascogne, all commonly found at local markets and farm inns nearby. The climate is mild oceanic, with warm, dry summers and gentle winters.
