Fleurance

Fleurance is a medieval bastide town founded in 1274, located in the Gers department, in the Occitanie region of south-western France. Its historic centre is built around the Place de la République, noted for its arcaded galleries and considered one of the largest covered squares in France, hosting a lively traditional market. The Saint-Laurent church, with its keep-like bell tower and stained-glass windows, is another notable feature of the town centre. Nearby, Lac de la Gimone offers a pleasant leisure area for swimming, fishing and walks along the water. The surrounding countryside is gently rolling and well suited to cycling and exploring the wider Gascon heritage, dotted with other bastide towns and small villages. The Gers area is also known for its gastronomy, particularly foie gras, Armagnac brandy and local farm produce, all commonly found at regional markets. Fleurance therefore serves as a convenient base for discovering the Gers, combining architectural heritage, nature and the relaxed pace of rural life typical of south-western France.
