Viella

Viella is a small village in the Gers department, in the Occitanie region of south-west France, set in the heart of Gascony not far from Eauze and Condom-en-Armagnac. This rural area is characterised by the gently rolling landscapes typical of the Bas-Armagnac, with a patchwork of vineyards, cereal fields and small woodlands, creating a peaceful setting ideal for relaxation and nature-based stays. The region is renowned for producing Armagnac, the Gers' signature brandy, as well as for regional specialities such as foie gras, duck breast and local wines, which can be sampled at nearby farms and wine estates. Historic bastide villages, local produce markets and quiet country lanes make the area well suited to walking or cycling, including sections of the Camino de Santiago pilgrim routes that pass through the Gers. The mild, sunny climate for much of the year encourages outdoor pursuits. Viella therefore serves as a low-key base for discovering the authentic Gascon countryside, combining rural heritage, fine food and quiet surroundings, away from the busier tourist centres of the wider region.
