Monfort

Monfort is a small village in the Gers department, in the Occitanie region, recognised as one of the Most Beautiful Villages of France. Founded in the 13th century as a bastide, it retains a central square lined with traditional arcaded walkways typical of medieval Gascon architecture, along with the remains of a hilltop castle offering open views over the surrounding countryside. The village sits within the gently rolling landscape typical of the Gers, characterised by hills, farmland and vineyards, ideal for walking or cycling. Its proximity to towns such as Fleurance and Auch makes it easy to explore other bastides and local markets, in a region well known for its gastronomy, including foie gras, Armagnac brandy and other Gascon specialities.
