La romieu

La Romieu is a village in the Gers department, in the Occitanie region of south-western France, known chiefly for its Saint-Pierre collegiate church, a 14th-century Gothic masterpiece listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Routes of Santiago de Compostela. The cloister and the tower, which can be climbed for views over the village rooftops and the surrounding Gascon countryside, are among the site's notable features. The village is also linked to the legend of Angéline and her cats, recalled by feline sculptures scattered throughout the streets and gardens. The setting remains rural and peaceful, typical of the Gers countryside, with rolling landscapes well suited to walking and exploring local heritage.
