Ferrette

Ferrette is a small town in the Haut-Rhin department, tucked away in the Sundgau, a hilly region of southern Alsace close to the Swiss border. Overlooked by the ruins of its medieval castle perched on a rocky outcrop, once the seat of the Counts of Ferrette, the town retains a charming historic centre with cobbled lanes and half-timbered houses. The rural, wooded surroundings typical of the Sundgau are well suited to walking and cycling, particularly along the trails of the Alsatian Jura, which offer views over the Alsace plain and the surrounding hills. The area is also known for its carp ponds, a legacy of a long-standing fish-farming tradition, and for the local speciality of fried carp, often served in nearby inns.
