Grussenheim

Grussenheim is a small village in the Haut-Rhin département, located in the Ried plain between Colmar and the Rhine, in Alsace. This rural area is characterised by wet meadows, maize and hop fields, and the alluvial forests typical of the Rhine region. The village was the scene of fierce fighting during the Liberation in January 1945, an episode that remains part of local memory. Today, Grussenheim offers a peaceful, green setting, well suited to countryside stays and walks or cycle rides along Alsace's network of cycling paths. Colmar, around fifteen kilometres away, is easily reached, with its historic centre, half-timbered houses and museums. The fortified town of Neuf-Brisach, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its Vauban architecture, is also within short reach. Visitors keen on regional cuisine can sample Alsatian specialities in nearby farmhouse inns and traditional winstubs. Grussenheim therefore makes a quiet base for exploring the Alsace plain and its surrounding area, rich in both history and nature.
