Elbach

Elbach is a small rural village in the Haut-Rhin department, located in the Sundgau area of southern Alsace, close to the Swiss border. This gently rolling landscape, dotted with woodlands and ponds, provides a peaceful setting well suited to countryside stays. The Sundgau region is known for its picturesque scenery, traditional half-timbered villages, and fishing ponds, a legacy of the area's historic pisciculture still visible in many neighbouring communes. The region is also recognised for its local cuisine, particularly fried carp, a signature dish served in numerous local inns during the warmer months. The surroundings of Elbach are ideal for outdoor pursuits such as walking and cycling, thanks to a network of paths connecting the Sundgau villages. Its proximity to Switzerland and the Territoire de Belfort also makes day trips easy to arrange. The climate is semi-continental with some influence from the Vosges mountains, bringing mild summers and cooler winters. Elbach therefore offers a quiet base from which to explore an authentic corner of Alsace, away from the busier tourist towns of the region.
