Muhlbach sur munster

Muhlbach-sur-Munster is a small Alsatian village in the Haut-Rhin department, nestled in the heart of the Munster valley amid the foothills of the Vosges mountains. Just a few kilometres from the town of Munster, the village takes its name from the stream running through it and sits within a lush mountain setting, ideal for hiking towards nearby peaks such as the Petit Ballon or the Hohneck, reached via marked trails through forests and pastures typical of the region. The Munster valley is well known for producing the eponymous Munster cheese, made in local farm inns where visitors can also sample tarte flambée, savoury pies and other Alsatian specialities. The village retains traditional half-timbered houses with sloping roofs, characteristic of Vosges architecture. In winter, the proximity of ski areas such as La Schlucht or Lac Blanc allows for snow-based activities, while summer is well suited to hiking, mountain biking and exploring the natural surroundings of the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park. The village also serves as a convenient base for exploring the nearby Alsace wine region.
