Rouffach

Rouffach is a small town in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located on the Alsace Wine Route between Colmar and Mulhouse. The village retains architectural traces of its medieval past, notably the Witches' Tower, a remnant of the old fortifications, and the Notre-Dame church, a Romanesque and Gothic building overlooking the historic centre. The surrounding vineyards, known for grand cru wines such as Vorbourg, make Rouffach a good base for exploring Alsatian winemaking, with opportunities for cellar visits and tastings with local producers. The area enjoys a relatively dry semi-continental climate, ideal for outdoor activities throughout the year, including walking through the vine-covered hills and trails leading towards the foothills of the Vosges mountains. The town centre has kept a traditional Alsatian character, with half-timbered houses and cobbled streets. Its proximity to Colmar also makes it easy to explore the region's main tourist attractions, while still enjoying the calm and authenticity of a wine-growing village in the Haut-Rhin.
