Wintzenheim

Wintzenheim is a village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, a few kilometres west of Colmar, nestled at the foot of the Vosges mountains. It lies along the Alsace Wine Route, and its vineyards include the Grand Cru Hengst, well regarded for its gewurztraminer and pinot gris wines. The surrounding landscape combines vine-covered slopes with the beginnings of wooded hills, making it a pleasant base for walking and hiking, particularly towards the heights overlooking the valley. The Logelbach district, a former textile industry site, retains 19th-century workers' housing that reflects the village's industrial past. Colmar's historic centre, with its half-timbered houses and canals, is within easy reach, while Wintzenheim itself offers a quieter, more rural setting. The village has local shops, restaurants serving traditional Alsatian cuisine, and wine cellars open for tastings. The region enjoys a semi-continental climate, generally dry and sunny, which supports wine tourism throughout the year, with increased activity during the autumn grape harvest.
