Westhalten

Westhalten is a wine-growing village in the Haut-Rhin département, set at the heart of the Alsace vineyards between Colmar and Guebwiller, at the foot of the sub-Vosges hills. Recognised among France's remarkable taste destinations, the village has a long winemaking tradition, with several family-run estates offering tastings and direct sales of Alsace wines, including Riesling, Gewurztraminer and Pinot Gris. Its half-timbered houses, fountains and flower-lined lanes give the village a distinctly Alsatian charm, ideal for a leisurely stroll. The surrounding vineyard, with its terraced plots, provides a pleasant setting for walking and cycling, particularly along the Alsace Wine Route which passes through the commune. Nearby villages such as Rouffach and Soultzmatt are within easy reach, as is the Vosges massif for woodland walks. The region enjoys a fairly dry, sunny semi-continental climate well suited to viticulture. Westhalten makes a peaceful base from which to explore the Alsace vineyards, their tasting cellars, rolling landscapes and rural architectural heritage, while remaining close to the region's main tourist towns such as Colmar and Mulhouse.
