Ste croix aux mines

Sainte-Croix-aux-Mines is a village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, lying in the Liepvrette valley within the Val d'Argent area, right next to Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines. The area bears the mark of a long mining heritage, linked to silver and other ore extraction dating back to the Middle Ages, with a few remaining traces still visible in the surrounding landscape. Set among the wooded slopes of the Vosges mountains, the village offers a forested, hilly setting well suited to walking and mountain biking, with several waymarked trails leading up towards the ridges and mountain passes nearby. In winter, ski resorts in the Vosges range, including the Lac Blanc area, are within reasonable reach. The closeness to Sainte-Marie-aux-Mines also gives easy access to shops, services and everyday amenities within this local hub of the Val d'Argent. The wider region is well known for the Alsace Wine Route, with its vineyard villages found just a short drive away. The climate is semi-continental, bringing mild summers and cool winters typical of the Vosges valleys.
