Oderen

Oderen is a village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, tucked into the Saint-Amarin valley at the foot of the Vosges mountains. It lies within the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, an area characterised by dense forests, rounded summits and steep-sided valleys typical of the range. Its proximity to the Grand Ballon, the highest peak in the Vosges, and the Markstein ski area makes it a convenient base for summer walking as well as winter sports. The nearby Kruth-Wildenstein lake offers watersports and lakeside walks. The Saint-Amarin valley also retains a textile industrial heritage, notably visible at the Wesserling Park, a former manufacturing site now converted into a cultural and leisure space. The climate is continental and mountainous, with cool winters bringing reliable snowfall and mild summers suited to outdoor pursuits. Oderen therefore serves as a quiet base for exploring the Vosges landscape, combining unspoilt nature, local heritage and easy access to the routes connecting Alsace with Lorraine.
