Widensolen

Widensolen is a small village in the Haut-Rhin département of Alsace, around ten kilometres south-east of Colmar. It lies within the Ried, a low-lying, marshy plain bordering the River Ill, known for its flood meadows, rich biodiversity and traditional market gardening, including asparagus cultivation typical of the area. The village retains features common to Alsatian settlements, with a scattering of half-timbered houses and a modest rural church. Colmar's historic centre, with its canals in the so-called Petite Venise and its museums, is easily reached, while the Alsace Wine Route, with its vine-covered hillsides and flower-decked villages, lies a short distance to the west. Widensolen itself offers a quiet, rural setting, well suited to walking or cycling along the paths crisscrossing the Ried and to exploring the surrounding countryside. The region enjoys a semi-continental climate, with mild summers and cool winters, allowing outdoor activities for much of the year. Overall, Widensolen makes a peaceful base for discovering Alsace's cultural heritage and the distinctive landscapes of the Ried, set between farmland and nearby vineyards.
