Hohrod

Hohrod is a small village in the Haut-Rhin department, tucked away in the Munster valley in Alsace, at the foot of the Vosges mountains. Surrounded by forests and pastures, it offers a peaceful, green setting well suited to nature-based stays. Its position at the bottom of the valley makes it a popular starting point for walking and mountain biking, with access to trails leading up to Vosges peaks such as the Hohneck and the Petit Ballon. The area is also known for producing Munster AOP cheese, made in the traditional farm-inns dotted throughout the valley. Hohrod is additionally home to a German military cemetery dating from the First World War, a reminder of the fighting that took place in the Vosges. Nearby, the town of Munster offers shops, markets and everyday amenities, while the Alsace Wine Route and its picturesque villages lie around twenty minutes away by car. In winter, cross-country and downhill ski areas within the Vosges massif are easily reached, making Hohrod a convenient year-round base for exploring this authentic corner of Alsace.
