Blodelsheim

Blodelsheim is a village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located in the Rhine plain between Colmar and the German border, close to the River Rhine and the Grand Canal d'Alsace. The commune is known for its lakes formed from former gravel pits, now developed for fishing, swimming and water sports, popular especially during the summer months. The surrounding natural environment, characterised by riverside forest and wetlands, provides a pleasant setting for walks and wildlife observation. Blodelsheim lies around fifteen kilometres from Colmar, a historic town on the Alsace Wine Route, and is also close to Neuf-Brisach, a fortified town listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its military architecture designed by Vauban. The wider region is also marked by energy infrastructure linked to the Rhine, including a nearby hydroelectric power station. The semi-continental climate of the Alsace plain, with warm summers and cool winters, supports outdoor activities for much of the year.
