Ensisheim

Ensisheim is a small town in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located between Colmar and Mulhouse, close to the Alsace Wine Route. Once the historic capital of Upper Alsace under Habsburg rule, it retains notable heritage, including the Palais de la Régence, now the town hall, and the Witches' Tower, a remnant of the former fortifications. The town is also known for the meteorite that fell in 1492, a well-documented historical event recounted at the Musée de la Régence, which traces local history and this particular occurrence. Ensisheim offers a typical Alsatian setting, surrounded by vineyards, half-timbered villages and the Rhine plain, making it well suited to cycling and exploring the local wine heritage. Its proximity to Colmar makes it easy to reach the region's main tourist sites, while Mulhouse provides access to several themed museums. The semi-continental climate of the Alsace plain brings warm summers and cooler winters, with decent sunshine supporting outdoor activities for much of the year.
