Hunawihr

Hunawihr is a small wine-growing village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located on the famous Alsace Wine Route between Ribeauvillé and Riquewihr. The village is known for its fortified church of Saints-Jacques-et-Thiébaut, surrounded by a fortified cemetery and shared for centuries between Catholic and Protestant congregations, a rare feature in the region. Hunawihr is also home to a stork and otter reintroduction centre, a nature park dedicated to species conservation and popular with families. The village is surrounded by vineyards, including the Rosacker Grand Cru, and is listed among the most beautiful villages in France. Flower-lined lanes, half-timbered houses and surrounding vineyard landscapes create a distinctly Alsatian setting, ideal for gentle walks and exploring the local winemaking heritage. The area enjoys a semi-continental climate, with warm summers and notably high sunshine levels for northern France, well suited to viticulture.
