Katzenthal

Katzenthal is a small wine-growing village in the Haut-Rhin department, a few kilometres north-west of Colmar, along the Alsace Wine Route. Nestled at the foot of the sub-Vosges hills, it is known for its Grand Cru vineyard under the Wineck-Schlossberg appellation, overlooked by the ruins of a medieval castle of the same name that offers views across the Alsace plain. The village retains an authentic character, with traditional half-timbered houses and a fortified church reflecting classic Alsatian architecture. Numerous independent winegrowers offer tastings and cellar visits, giving visitors the chance to discover regional grape varieties such as Riesling and Gewurztraminer. Katzenthal serves as a convenient starting point for walks through the surrounding vineyards and woodland, as well as for exploring the nearby villages of Kaysersberg and Ammerschwihr, both also celebrated for their winemaking heritage. Colmar, roughly a ten-minute drive away, provides easy access to shops, museums and cultural events. The region's semi-continental climate brings warm summers and cool winters, ideal conditions for viticulture.
