Houssen

Houssen is a small village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located just a few kilometres north of Colmar. It is best known locally for its aerodrome, Colmar-Houssen Airport, which serves light aircraft and a handful of regional flights. Its location makes it a convenient base for exploring Colmar's historic centre, with its half-timbered houses and canals, as well as the nearby Alsace Wine Route, renowned for its vineyards and wine-growing villages. The village itself retains a quiet, residential character, with traditional Alsatian houses and a peaceful setting well suited to a relaxed stay. The region's semi-continental climate brings warm summers and cool winters, with much of the year suitable for outdoor pursuits such as walking or cycling through the surrounding vineyards. Houssen therefore offers a low-key, well-placed alternative for discovering the cultural, wine-growing and culinary heritage of the Colmar area, away from the busier town centre yet close to Alsace's main road links.
