Aspach le bas

Aspach-le-Bas is a small village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located near Cernay and Thann, just a few kilometres from Mulhouse. The village sits within a typically rural setting at the foot of the Vosges mountains, between farmland and the first wooded slopes of the range. Its location makes it a convenient base for exploring the surrounding hills, ideal for walking and mountain biking, as well as the nearby valleys leading up to the Ballon d'Alsace and the Grand Ballon. The proximity to Mulhouse provides easy access to a range of museums, notably its well-known technical and motoring collections, while Cernay and Thann offer a more traditional slice of Alsace, with half-timbered houses and notable religious architecture. The wider region remains steeped in Alsatian winemaking and culinary traditions, with local winstubs serving regional specialities such as choucroute and tarte flambée. In winter, the Christmas markets of nearby towns, particularly Mulhouse and Colmar, add further appeal to the area. Aspach-le-Bas therefore serves as a quiet base from which to discover both the Alsatian countryside and the lower slopes of the Vosges.
