Husseren les chateaux

Husseren-les-Châteaux is a small wine-growing village in the Haut-Rhin department, perched on the heights of the Alsace Wine Route, right next to Eguisheim and just a few kilometres from Colmar. The village takes its name from the three medieval castles overlooking the nearby hill, remnants of Eguisheim's old stronghold. Recognised as the highest point along the Wine Route, it offers sweeping views over the Alsatian vineyards and plain, stretching as far as the Vosges mountains on clear days. The surrounding terroir includes several well-regarded plots, notably the Eichberg Grand Cru, suited to growing Riesling and Gewurztraminer. The village retains a genuine rural character, with traditional winegrowers' houses and quiet lanes. Walking enthusiasts can follow vineyard paths connecting Husseren-les-Châteaux to neighbouring villages such as Eguisheim, Wettolsheim and Voegtlinshoffen. Its proximity to Colmar also makes it easy to reach the historic town centre and its charming old quarters. The wider region is known for its wines, Alsatian cuisine, and a fairly dry semi-continental climate that makes it pleasant to visit for much of the year.
