Le bonhomme

Le Bonhomme is a village in the Haut-Rhin department, nestled in the Vosges mountains on the border between Alsace and Lorraine. The settlement owes some of its recognition to the Col du Bonhomme, a historic mountain pass linking the two regions, which formed part of the front line during the First World War; military remains and cemeteries in the surrounding area still bear witness to this period. The commune spans a mountainous landscape well suited to walking, with trails leading up to the Vosges ridgeline and offering views over the surrounding valleys. The forested setting, combining fir woods and upland pastures, draws nature lovers throughout the year, with winter activities such as cross-country skiing or snowshoeing depending on snowfall, and hiking or mountain biking during the warmer months. Local heritage reflects the rural, mountain character typical of the Vosges, with farm-inns serving simple regional fare. Le Bonhomme makes a peaceful base for exploring the Vosges massif, combining unspoilt nature with local history, close to other traditional villages in the Weiss valley.
