Neuf brisach

Neuf-Brisach is a fortified town in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, around twenty kilometres east of Colmar and close to the German border. Built in the late 17th century on the orders of Vauban, it stands as one of the best-preserved examples of his star-shaped military architecture and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town follows a geometric layout centred on the Place d'Armes, home to the Église Saint-Louis, surrounded by ramparts, monumental gates and moats forming part of the defensive system designed by the engineer. The grid-like streets and fortifications make Neuf-Brisach a popular spot for walking and exploring European military heritage. The town lies in the Alsace plain, a region known for its vineyards and celebrated regional cuisine, with easy access to the Rhine and the surrounding Alsatian villages. The semi-continental climate brings warm summers and cool winters, typical of the area. Neuf-Brisach makes a convenient base for exploring the Sundgau area, Colmar and the nearby German Black Forest.
