Ostheim

Ostheim is a village in the Haut-Rhin department of Alsace, located in the Ried plain between Colmar and Sélestat. The village is particularly known for its rose-growing tradition: every odd-numbered year, a rose festival is held there, recalling the area's former horticultural activity centred on this flower. Ostheim also retains a fortified church dating from the Middle Ages, a fine example of rural defensive architecture in Alsace and a notable local landmark. The village lies just a few kilometres from Colmar, whose historic centre is well known, and close to the Alsace Wine Route, which winds through numerous villages celebrated for their riesling and gewurztraminer. The surrounding countryside, shaped by the River Ill and the farmland of the Ried, is well suited to outdoor pursuits such as walking and cycling. Ostheim therefore makes a peaceful base for exploring the Alsace vineyards, the picturesque villages nearby and the region's architectural heritage, set within an unspoilt rural landscape typical of central Alsace.
