Entrammes

Entrammes is a village in the Mayenne department, in the Pays de la Loire region, located a few kilometres south of Laval. The village is crossed by the River Jouanne, set within the typical rural hedgerow landscape of the Mayenne countryside, ideal for walking and fishing. Entrammes is particularly known for the Abbey of Port-du-Salut, founded by Trappist monks in the 19th century, where the Port-Salut cheese was first created and is still produced industrially under that name today. The village also retains Gallo-Roman remains, including ancient baths that bear witness to early settlement in the area. The surrounding countryside, marked by meadows, hedgerows and small streams, offers a peaceful, green setting well suited to rural stays. The climate is temperate oceanic, with mild summers and gentle winters. Its proximity to Laval provides easy access to shops, services and cultural amenities of a medium-sized town, while still allowing visitors to enjoy the tranquillity of the Mayenne countryside.
