Herbignac

Herbignac is a small town in the Loire-Atlantique department, on the edge of the Brière Regional Nature Park, just a short drive from the Guérande coastline and La Baule. Part of the parish extends into the Brière marshland, offering an unspoilt natural setting well suited to walking, birdwatching and traditional punt-boat trips. The town's main heritage site is the Château de Ranrouët, a ruined medieval fortress surrounded by a moat, whose remains reflect the region's military past and can be freely visited for much of the year. The village itself still features a number of thatched cottages typical of Brière architecture. Its proximity to the Guérande salt marshes and the beaches of the Guérande peninsula makes it a convenient base for exploring both the inland marshes and the Atlantic coast. The mild oceanic climate makes for pleasant stays from spring through to autumn. Herbignac remains a quiet, nature- and heritage-focused destination, valued for its authentic rural setting between the Brière marshes and the coast, away from the bustle of the nearby seaside resorts.
