Saint-Viaud is a village in the Pays de Retz area of the Loire-Atlantique department, just a few kilometres from Saint-Nazaire and the Loire estuary. This rural setting, characterised by the bocage hedgerow landscape and wetlands typical of the region, offers a peaceful, green environment ideal for country walks and exploring the local countryside. Its proximity to the estuary and the Atlantic coastline makes it a convenient base for day trips to the beaches of the Côte de Jade, particularly around Pornic and Saint-Brevin-les-Pins, as well as to Saint-Nazaire itself, a city renowned for its shipbuilding industry and the Espadon submarine museum. The surrounding area also invites visits to the Brière Regional Natural Park, reachable within roughly half an hour's drive, where traditional punt boat trips and wildlife spotting are popular activities. Saint-Viaud therefore serves as a quiet starting point for discovering both the maritime and industrial heritage of the Saint-Nazaire region and the unspoilt natural landscapes of the Pays de Retz, all within a mild, temperate oceanic climate for much of the year.
